Steuben Bud Vase

I asked our contributor, Rebecca Rosen, if she had any Steuben Glass in her collection. She sent over this beautiful Bud Vase with the original paperwork with it. Take a peak.

Steuben Glass which is roughly 2 1/2 hours outside of Chautauqua County recently closed their company this fall. The company started in 1903 by Fredrick C Carder and Thomas G Hawkes. You can still get some pieces during their final sale.

Read more about the history on Wikipedia.

Christmas Cat House

Cat in the HouseThis must be one unique ornament. I’ve scoured on-line and I haven’t found any similar ornaments. So I throw this one out to the readers. To me it looks like a cat snug in a house…

Beep Beep

Antique Car OrnamentThe next few days, I’ll be sharing some antique ornaments from my parents collection. Unfortunately, if I would have taken the pictures one day prior I would have had many more to chose from. Her tree fell this year and smashed a handful of her ornaments.

This is an antique car that she picked up at Salamanca Antique Mall. It’s dangerous when we go together. We have been known to fight over some ornaments. She won this one.

I found this site today that offers reproduction antique ornaments and found one that almost matches this piece.

Old Swedish Bell Tower

Rebecca’s cousin, Sonja Pascatore, stopped by her house with a surprice. An Old Swedish Bell Tower Candle Ornament and Music Box.

Antique Scandinavian Christmas Ornament

Some history on this unique ornament…

The early church “Klockare” was derived from the Swedish word Klocka which means“Bell”. The Klockare means bell- ringers. Their job was very important because not only did they announce the time for church services, but they also rang the bells for any special events such as immanent danger, fires, and general meetings of the towns folk.

The Church building was not the only place which had a bell tower. Many public buildings had bell towers to accompany them. The bell towers were separate from the Church or public buildings, off center and not enclosed. They were originally built in the 11th Century as many of the buildings could not support roof towers. Most existing bell towers date from the 16th and 17th centuries.

Original Packaging

Any Scandinavian Readers out there. Let us know what it says?
