73rd Annual Westfield Antique Show Runs July 16 and 17


Local and regional antique collectors take note: the 73rd Annual Westfield Antique Show is taking place on July 16 and 17 at Eason Hall in Westfield. According to the organizers (Chautauqua County Historical Society), this is the longest continuously running antique show in the U.S. and its located in the heart of Antique Country – Westfield, N.Y.

WESTFIELD, N.Y. – Antique collectors take notice: the longest continuously running Antique Show in the United States is set to take place the third weekend in July in Westfield, N.Y.

The 73rd Annual Westfield Antique Show will be held July 16 (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and July 17 (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) at Eason Hall, 23 Elm St., Westfield, N.Y. The event will feature over 20 different dealers from five different states.

“This is the longest-running antique show in the United States,” explains organizer John Paul Wolfe, who also serves as the curator of the Chautauqua County Historical Society’s McClurg Museum. “It was started in 1938 by Doc and Edis Shelkey, who were well-known local antique dealers during that era.” Continue reading

Historical Society Announces more Details of 2011 Book and Paper Show

Our friends at the Chautauqua County Historical Society are gearing up for a busy summer with two special events for antique enthusiasts. Not only will the organization again host the 73nd Annual Westfield Antique Show on July 16 and 17 in Eason Hall, but they will also present the Second Annual Book and Paper Show on July 30.

Today the Historical Society provided more details on the Book and Paper Show via it’s blog page. Below are the first two paragraphs of the media release, along with a link to the remainder of the release on the blog site.

WESTFIELD, N.Y., June 17, 2011 – Fans of local history and book collectors will want to be in Westfield on Saturday, July 30 for the second annual Book and Paper Show, presented by the Chautauqua County Historical Society. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will take place at the Firemen’s Exempt Hall (75 Bourne St.), Westfield, N.Y.

“This is a show for readers and collectors with specific interests,” according to CCHS trustee Jack Ericson, who’s once again charged with organizing this year’s show. “Expect to find books, maps, manuscripts and paper materials relating to Chautauqua and surrounding counties.”Ericson adds that this year, the historical society will feature some of its recently deaccessioned items available for sale.

Antique Bottles on Display at Chautauqua County Historical Society

The Chautauqua County Historical Society in Westfield has a temporary exhibit set up at the McClurg Museum featuring various antique bottles from throughout the region, including some that were made right here in Chautauqua County. The exhibit contains only a handful of the dozens of bottles the museum has acquired in its collection from over the years.

The museum recently posted a video on its blog page, featuring interviews with Bobby Vauhn and Nancy Hanks – two members of the historical society.
